My Favorite Book Podcasts

I never listened to a single podcast before this year but I have really started to enjoy book podcasts so I thought I would share my favorites so far. I’ve listed them below in the order that I discovered them! There aren’t a ton because I still spend much more time listening to audiobooks than podcasts but each of these is truly unique and fun to listen to when I do tear myself away from my books.

The Librarian Is In

This is the first book podcast I listened to and I mostly did it because one of the moderators of the Diverse Books Club (which I’ve mentioned before) was a guest on this podcast. However, I quickly fell in love with the hosts and the podcast. The two hosts, Gwen Glazer and Frank Collerius, are librarians at the New York Public Library and they have great banter that is just a joy to listen to.

This podcast was started at the end of 2015 so there’s quite a few episodes and I’m still catching up.

Reading Women

I’ve mentioned this podcast before when writing about the Reading Women challenge I’ve been participating in this year. The podcast is hosted by Kendra and Autumn who only discuss books written by women. I have added SO many book to my TBR thanks to them. They have over 50 episodes out plus a bunch of interviews that they don’t seem to count as episodes. I still have a ton to watch but I love the chemistry between the hosts and it’s always a great listen.

He Read She Read

This is a podcast hosted by an adorable married couple, Curtis and Chelsey. I have been following them on Bookstagram for quite some time, at least partially because Chelsey is another moderator of the Diverse Books Club. They are serious #relationshipgoals and I giggle at least once during every episode. This podcast is relatively new and only has 7 episodes. I’ve listened to all but the last half of episode 7 because it has spoilers for A Darker Shade of Magic which I haven’t read yet.

The Stacks

This is my newest discovery so I’ve only listened to a few episodes but it’s got a really interesting format. The host, Traci, has a guest come on for two episodes for two weeks in a row. The first week she talks about the guest’s background and book interests and then they discuss a specific book in the discussion in the second week.

The other reason I haven’t listened to a lot of episodes is because she makes it very clear that in the book discussion episodes that spoilers will be discussed so I don’t want to listen to those until I’ve read the book. However, I also want to listen to each guest’s episodes together so I’m going to have to wait for a lot of them. I do plan to start trying to read along with her now that I’ve discovered the podcast and the book club.

Side note: Traci’s voice is amazing. It’s worth it to listen to for that reason alone but Traci is also a black women who will give you recommendations for great diverse literature that we should all be reading.
